How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re finished with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying cozy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can accumulate around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still staying cozy. Whenever possible, utilize supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you turn it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance
